Why “Where We’re Supposed to Be”
This playlist began on August 29th, 2022, right when I began my move out west! After 2 years of nomading around the world, I was ready to plant roots. I had chosen to plant those roots in San Francisco, CA - the home to amazing people, nature, and the perfect location to start my company.
Committing to one location for multiple years was a bit intimidating for me, and on my drive from Michigan to San Francisco, questions filled my mind…
“Was SF the place for me? I never gave Austin a shot, should I have decided to live there? I’m picking career over family, is that the right move??”
The only way to truly answer these questions would require me to fully live out two different life paths. Until we can clone ourselves, this is impossible…
These unanswerable questions cluttered my mind, diverting focus from the present and planning for the bright future ahead of me. So I spent the beginning of my drive thinking how to silence these unanswerable, unproductive thoughts.
While jamming to the song “Silver and Gold” by Yung Bae (#9 on the playlist), I figured out a mindset that would help clear my mind! I needed to truly believe that I was making the right choice moving out to SF, I needed to believe that everything is going to work out for the best, that I am right where I’m supposed to be.
Truly believing this takes a lot of effort! So “Where we’re supposed to be” became the name of the playlist, serving as a reminder that we made the right decision.
The unanswerable questions did not stop on the drive, nor have they completely stopped coming to mind now. This is good! The questions are important to consider at least once. The goal of my new found belief is to minimize the amount of time I spend thinking about the unanswerable “what ifs” of life.
In general, beliefs can help make life easier. I think this is the reason most religions exist. They give certainty to the most uncertain questions that come to the human mind.
For me, believing that everything truly works out for the best is a belief I am choosing to adopt. It allows me to learn from a situation and then quickly move on to making the most of life. If this is *not* a belief you hold, think about adopting it, it has definitely improved my life!
